Oakland & Fraternal Historic Cemetery Park
Est. 1863
History
"Established in 1863 as a final resting place for Civil War soldiers, Oakland is still an active cemetery today. Through the years, this 165-acre estate has been carved into six distinct cemeteries: Oakland, Little Rock National, a one-acre Confederate, Fraternal, B'Nai Isreal, and Agudath Achim. Today, 108 acres of the original 165 remain as burial grounds. The cemeteries have seen more than 62,000 burials since the first in 1863."

John Rains
Sexton of Oakland & Fraternal Historic Cemetery Park
John Rains has a diversified portfolio and a wonderful work ethic. He came to us in October of 2010 to become the sexton of the largest municipally owned cemetery in Arkansas. It has been a daunting and ongoing task starting out, having to locate, repair, clean, and restore many of the thousands of grave markers that were vandalized or neglected for many years. Among his many duties, he also conducts burials, tours, and the daily operations of the cemetery park. He digs the burials, gives tours, and provides security for visitors of the cemetery. His phone number is 501-626-6662, please call if you have any questions about the cemetery.
